Frequently Asked Questions
When families in Kent contact me, they often have similar questions about what a celebrant does, how the process works and which venues I cover. I regularly lead ceremonies at Kent & Sussex Crematorium in Tunbridge Wells, Vinters Park Crematorium in Maidstone, Bluebell Cemetery in Halstead, and Medway Crematorium at Bluebell Hill. I’m also happy to travel further, including to Charing, Thames View and other crematoria across Kent and the South East. Alongside these, I also create Celebration of Life ceremonies in beautiful venues such as natural burial sites, gardens, castles, barns, wedding venues and private homes, giving families the freedom to say goodbye in a way that feels truly personal.

General FAQs
WHAT AREAS OF KENT DO YOU COVER AS A FUNERAL CELEBRANT?
I work across Kent, regularly leading ceremonies in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling, and at Medway Crematorium. I also travel to crematoria further afield, such as Charing and Thames View, and I’m happy to discuss ceremonies in other parts of the South East too.
CAN YOU LEAD CEREMONIES AT CREMATORIA AND CEMETERIES IN KENT?
Yes. I frequently conduct services at Kent & Sussex Crematorium in Tunbridge Wells, Vinters Park in Maidstone, Bluebell Cemetery in Halstead, and Medway Crematorium at Bluebell Hill. I’m familiar with how these venues work, including timings and facilities, which helps everything run smoothly on the day.
DO YOU CREATE CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONIES IN OTHER VENUES TOO?
Absolutely. Many families prefer a more personal setting – perhaps a village hall, hotel, garden, barn, or woodland venue. I often design ceremonies in beautiful Kent locations beyond crematoria, giving you the freedom to create something truly unique and personal.
HOW MUCH DOES A FUNERAL CELEBRANT COST IN KENT?
Fees vary depending on the ceremony style and location, but I’ll always be clear and transparent from the start. My fee includes meeting with you (in person or online), creating a bespoke script, helping with readings and music, liaising with your funeral director or venue, and leading the ceremony on the day. Please get in touch for an exact figure based on your needs or take a look here.
DO YOU WORK WITH KENT FUNERAL DIRECTORS?
Yes, I regularly work alongside excellent funeral directors in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Medway and across Kent. I also liaise directly with crematoria staff to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you already have a funeral director, I’ll work in partnership with them; if not, I can suggest local funeral professionals I trust.
CAN YOU HELP WITH ECO-FRIENDLY OR WOODLAND BURIALS IN KENT?
Yes. Kent has some wonderful natural and woodland burial grounds, such as Eden Valley and Riverview and Deerton Natural Burial Grounds. I can design a ceremony that reflects the surroundings, with words, music or readings chosen to suit a more natural setting.
WHAT MAKES A CELEBRANT-LED FUNERAL IN KENT DIFFERENT TO A CHURCH SERVICE?
A celebrant-led funeral is created entirely around the person who has died and the wishes of their family. It can be spiritual, non-religious, or include hymns and prayers if you wish. Unlike a set format, you have complete freedom over music, readings, and personal tributes. Whether held in a crematorium such as Kent & Sussex, Vinters Park, Bluebell Cemetery or Medway, or in one of Kent’s beautiful countryside venues, the ceremony will reflect your loved one’s life and personality.
WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR WHEN SEARCHING FOR A CELEBRANT?
When choosing a celebrant, it’s important to find someone who will listen carefully, capture your loved one’s story with sensitivity, and create a ceremony that feels personal and genuine. Look for someone who is experienced, compassionate, and flexible - able to include family tributes, music, or rituals that matter to you. Many families in Kent also value working with a celebrant who is familiar with local crematoria such as Kent & Sussex in Tunbridge Wells, Vinters Park in Maidstone, Bluebell in Halstead, or Medway at Bluebell Hill, as well as local venues that are suited to this type of ceremony.
Awards and recognition can also be a good sign that a celebrant is highly regarded within their profession. I’m proud to have received the Debbie Brooke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Celebrancy 2023, and to have been a Good Funeral Awards finalist, which reflect my commitment to delivering ceremonies that are both professional and deeply meaningful.
Above all, you should feel comfortable and reassured when you meet your celebrant - the right person will feel like the right fit for your family.
HOW MUCH NOTICE DO YOU NEED TO ARRANGE A FUNERAL?
Funerals are usually arranged within a short timeframe (although much longer than other countries outside of the UK), and I can often meet families within a day or two of being contacted. Once we’ve spoken, I’ll begin preparing the ceremony straight away so everything is ready in time. Even if the service date is soon, I will make sure we have the time we need to create something personal and meaningful.
CAN YOU INCLUDE PRAYERS, HYMNS OR RELIGIOUS ELEMENTS IF WE’D LIKE THEM?
Yes, of course. While many families choose a non-religious ceremony, I can include prayers, hymns or spiritual readings if these reflect your loved one’s beliefs or wishes. A celebrant-led service is flexible, so it can be entirely non-religious, fully spiritual, or somewhere in between - the choice is always yours.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU’RE UNAVAILABLE ON THE DAY?
I take every step to ensure I am there for you, but in the unlikely event of illness or an emergency, I have a network of trusted, professional celebrants who can step in at short notice. They would use the ceremony script I have written for your family, so the words and tone remain exactly as planned. This way you have complete peace of mind that your ceremony will still go ahead just as you wanted.
